Helen L. Spring: Downtown bus terminal a necessity in Madison

Wisconsin State Journal
August 18, 2012

Kudos to the party who penned a letter stating that what we really need is a bus terminal.

It's rare for a city the size of Madison not to have a central bus station. Don't city business leaders realize how much income is lost due to the lack thereof?

Many people would love to visit relatives here, shop, attend functions or view university and sport events, but cannot because in real life not everyone owns a gas-guzzler or wants to drive in the city.

When there was talk of big federal dollars for high-speed rail transportation through Madison, our leaders wasted no time in selecting a Downtown station location and initiating plans.

Why isn't there some haste to find a site for a bus terminal? Then more people could visit The Edgewater and Overture Center, plus enjoy our metropolis.
